1. Start with manufacturing fit

Share a representative build package and ask the supplier to identify the highest-risk features. A useful answer references your package mix, panel, materials, sourcing constraints and test access—not only a generic equipment list.

2. Inspect the quotation assumptions

A comparable quotation separates PCB fabrication, material, assembly, test, tooling, programming, packaging and logistics. It should state the revision quoted, exchange-rate or material-validity limits and the handling of excess inventory.

3. Test sourcing discipline

Ask how exact manufacturer part numbers are validated, who can approve alternates, how shortages are escalated and what traceability is available. Silent substitution is a supplier-control failure.

4. Define quality evidence

Confirm workmanship criteria, first-article approval, inspection coverage, functional-test ownership, nonconformance handling and record retention. A certificate alone does not define your product acceptance plan.

5. Run a low-risk first order

Use a representative pilot build with dated review points, clear success criteria and a post-build review. Evaluate communication quality, exception handling and documentation as seriously as delivered boards.
